Meet Dr. Canlas
Aira Canlas, OD is dedicated to providing comprehensive, cutting-edge eye care to a diverse, urban population in Los Feliz, California at Sunset Optometric Center. She has special interests in diagnosing and managing binocular vision disorders, LASIK and refractive surgery, and fitting specialty contact lenses for irregular corneas, keratoconus (thinning of the cornea), and progressive myopia (nearsightedness).
Dr. Canlas received her Bachelor of Arts degree in molecular and cellular biology in 2009 from the University of California at Berkeley. She went on to earn her Doctor of Optometry degree at Western University of Health Sciences College of Optometry in 2014. She's a member of the Beta Sigma Kappa Optometric Honor Society.
After completing an internship at Natomas Optometry in Sacramento, California, Dr. Canlas became a primary care extern at the Eye Studio in San Diego and later at The Villages VA Outpatient Clinic. In those two institutions, she was proud to serve underprivileged community members and geriatric veterans.
Her dedication to the community includes volunteering at such organizations as the Athletes for Autism Vision Screening in Pomona, California, and Volunteer Optometric Services to Humanity in El Salvador. She has also given her time and knowledge to local Lions Club chapters and the National Council of La Raza Conference in Las Vegas.
Dr. Canlas is a member of the American Optometric Association and the California Optometric Association. She is fluent in English and can conduct optometry examinations in Spanish.
